n8n, Zapier or Make: how we choose
The three tools bill in different ways, and that difference decides what a workflow costs once it runs every day. Zapier counts each successful action step as a task. Make counts credits per module operation, so a loop over 50 records uses 50. n8n Cloud counts one execution per workflow run, however many steps it has, and a self-hosted n8n has no execution limit at all (pricing models as published in October 2026).
So a long workflow that runs often is usually cheapest in n8n, and a short one that runs a few times a day may cost less to leave in Zapier than to move. We count the runs and steps of your real workflows before recommending a move, and the quote shows the running cost before and after.
Cost is not the only reason. n8n lets us write JavaScript or Python inside a workflow, keep it under version control and run it next to your own database, which matters when the logic is more than a chain of app actions.
