Custom software development

When off-the-shelf tools stop fitting the way your business works, we design and build the software that does: customer-facing platforms, internal systems and the integrations between them. We own the architecture and answer for the result, and a tech lead who writes code is your day-to-day contact.

Custom software development

From $25,000

fixed-price stages of 2–4 weeks

  • Fixed quote after a 30-minute call
  • Design, testing and deployment included
  • Your code and infrastructure from day one
  • 30 days of bug fixes after acceptance

Platforms are planned and priced stage by stage, so you never commit to more than the next stage. See all prices and terms

Sound familiar?

  • Your team works around a tool instead of with it: spreadsheets, copy-paste and workarounds fill the gaps.
  • Several systems hold parts of the same process and nobody trusts the numbers.
  • You have outgrown a no-code or SaaS setup and need software that fits your workflow.
  • An existing system needs new features, but the original developers are gone.

What this covers.

Work is split into stages of two to four weeks, each with a fixed price and acceptance criteria. You see working software every week, and the code, repository and infrastructure belong to you from the first day.

  • Web platforms and portals

Customer, partner and supplier portals with accounts, permissions, payments and the workflow at the centre of your business.

  • Internal systems

Operations tools that replace spreadsheets and email threads, with roles, audit history and reporting on the same records.

  • APIs and integrations

Backends and connections between your CRM, ERP, booking, billing and partner systems, with retries and monitoring built in.

  • Event-driven backends

Services that stay correct when messages arrive twice, systems fail independently and records change after they are created.

  • Cloud infrastructure

Infrastructure as code on AWS, Google Cloud or the platform you already use, with separate environments and automated deployment.

  • Modernising existing software

Taking over a codebase, stabilising it with tests and moving it forward in stages without stopping the business.

How a custom software development project runs

The first stage is about understanding the work, not writing a long specification. We talk to the people who use the current setup, follow one real case from start to finish and list every system, spreadsheet and hand-off it touches. For a larger project with an open scope, this is the $1,500 scoping sprint: in three to five business days you get a written plan, an architecture and a fixed price for each stage. The plan stays with you, whoever builds it.

From you we need a person who knows the process and can make decisions, access to the systems the software must connect to, with sandbox accounts where they exist, and real records with personal details removed. You don't need a technical specification. We write it with you, and you approve it.

Each week you get a short written update and a link to the latest build that you can click through yourself. The update says what was finished, what comes next and which decisions are waiting for you. The repository is open to you from the first day, so you see every change, not a summary of it.

Each stage plan sets out:

  • The part of the workflow it covers, in steps your team will recognise
  • Acceptance criteria you can check without reading code
  • The systems involved and which one owns each piece of data
  • Risks and open questions, named rather than hidden in the price

How we keep a large project from drifting

Custom software rarely fails because of one bad decision. It fails through months of status reports while the product never quite reaches its users. We plan the stages so that cannot happen quietly.

Every stage ends with software in use, not a demo. The first stage puts one complete path into production, even if it is narrow: one record type, one role, one report. Later stages widen it. If a stage shows that part of the plan was wrong, you find out after weeks, not at the end of the budget.

Acceptance criteria are written in plain language before a stage starts and become automated tests during it. A change in scope does not stretch the current stage; it goes into the next one with its own price. Architecture decisions are recorded in short decision records, so the reasons survive after the people who made them move on.

The engineering basics are in place from the first week: separate development and production environments, infrastructure defined in code and deployment through a pipeline, never from someone's laptop. In the freight brokerage platform, each API route runs as its own function, defined in infrastructure code and promoted from development to production through a gated pipeline. The guest benefits platform has automated tests, separate development and production stages, and a preview environment for every change.

What you get at handover, and what happens after

Nothing changes hands at the end, because it was never ours. The repository, cloud accounts, domains and third-party services sit under your company from the first day. With each accepted stage you also get the source code with tests that run on every change, infrastructure as code for every environment, and a runbook for deploying, rolling back, restoring from a backup and rotating secrets. A service list names every external service, webhook and scheduled job, and who pays for each.

A handover call walks your team or your next developer through the system. From there you choose the next fixed-price stage, monthly support from $1,200 for monitoring, fixes and small changes, or your own team working from the documentation. Nobody needs our permission to continue.

Custom software is the broad option. A narrower service is often cheaper and faster:

  • Launching a new product and still testing whether people will pay? Start with MVP development.
  • Two systems that should share data but don't? API & system integrations connects them.
  • One tool for a sales or operations team? See Custom CRM & internal tools.

A call, a fixed quote, weekly progress.

You describe the problem on a 30-minute call and get a written fixed quote. We build in fixed-price stages and show working software every week, then hand over the code, infrastructure and documentation on your accounts. See all five steps.

Typical stack.

We choose for the problem and the systems you already run.

  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • Java / Spring Boot
  • React
  • Next.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • AWS
  • Google Cloud
  • Kafka / SQS
  • Docker

Custom software development: questions.

How much does custom software development cost?

Platforms start at $25,000 and are built in fixed-price stages of two to four weeks, so you commit to one stage at a time. A single internal tool is a smaller project: see custom CRM and internal tools. After a 30-minute call you get a written fixed quote within one or two business days.

How long does it take to build custom software?

Work is planned in stages of two to four weeks, each ending with working software in use, rather than one long project with a single launch date. The first stage and its date are agreed in the quote.

Who owns the code and the intellectual property?

You do. The repository, cloud accounts and third-party services are set up under your company from the start, and the IP is assigned to you in the agreement.

Can you take over an existing system?

Yes. We start with a short review of the code, infrastructure and open issues, add tests around the parts that matter and then change things in small, safe steps.

Do you use a particular technology stack?

We choose technology for the problem and for the systems you already run. Most of our work is in TypeScript, Java and PostgreSQL on AWS or Google Cloud, but we adapt to your stack rather than the other way round.

Is custom software better than an off-the-shelf tool?

Not always. If a SaaS tool or an automation platform covers the job, we will say so. Custom software pays off when the workflow is specific to your business or when the tools you have can no longer be connected reliably.

Do you sign an NDA?

Yes. We are happy to sign your NDA before you share the details.

When can you start?

We confirm the start date in the written quote, once the scope is agreed. We don't promise a date before we know the work.

Is design included?

Where the work has screens, yes: wireframes and interface design for the agreed scope are part of the fixed price. Brand identity or a full design system are quoted separately if you need them.

Have a project in mind?

Book a 30-minute call. If the scope is clear, you get a written fixed quote within one or two business days.
